Classroom Expectations: The 5 P's of Success

Mandatory supplies for English (ELA): These items are expected to be with you daily.

  1. A section in your binder labeled ELA (you will be required to replenish as needed). 
  2. TWO twin-pocket folders to leave in the classroom; portfolio and writing

(810=green; 803=purple; 808=blue

  1. Your DOE or own electronic device
  2. Loose leaf paper for your use
  3. pencils, blue, black, and green pens, post-its, index cards, highlighters, art supplies (crayons, markers (water-based, not permanent), colored pencils
  4. Independent Reading Book
Unit 1 - Suspense and the Short Story
Texts we are reading and analyzing:
  1. "The Tell-Tale Heart"
  2. "The Monkey's Paw"
  3. "A Christmas Carol" 
Writing Skills include:
  • short responses
  • literary essay
Reading skills include:
  • suspense,
  • the unreliable narrator (first person point of view),
  • mood,
  • tone,
  • foreshadowing,
  • irony, and
  • theme.
