Here is some information on the Law and ROTC institute at New Dorp H.S.
Interested parents and students can follow our Law Institute and AFJROTC Program on social media (Instagram or Facebook): @lawafjrotcndhs
Here is a brief description of each of our programs:
The Law Institute is an outstanding academic program that focuses on the study of law, government, politics, and historical leaders and events. Our program’s electives focus on various types of law, including criminal law, civil law, and constitutional law. Students can also have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement and other college-level courses related to politics and history, including AP World History, AP U.S. History, and AP U.S. Government and Politics. Students in the Law Institute have the opportunity to visit local and federal courts, work directly with lawyers, judges, and politicians, and participate in moot court and mock trial competitions throughout the city. Law firms and attorneys personally mentor our students. Students in the Law Institute regularly practice research, legal writing, and public speaking skills in our own model courtroom and work on real-life group projects related to civics and government. Juniors and seniors can apply for internships in legal and political offices throughout Staten Island. The Law Institute partners with the Justice Resource Center for many of these career-based activities.
The Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (AFJROTC) is a congressionally mandated program with a mission to develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community. The AFJROTC program, which is a separate pathway from the courses offered in our Law Institute, is grounded in the Air Force core values of “integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do.” Classroom instruction includes aerospace science (40%), leadership development (40%), and physical fitness (20%). Unique scholarship opportunities are also available for AFJROTC students. New Dorp High School has also been approved for the first and only Aviation Honors Ground School (AHGS) Program in the State of NY with regular flying opportunities for cadets. Eligible students will have the opportunity to fly drones and take flight lessons with a licensed instructor. Cadets are able to log hours toward their pilot’s license in our very own flight simulator. Cadets will also be prepared for the Federal Aviation Administration’s written certification exams and work toward their Private Pilot and Remote Drone Pilot certifications. Please note that AFJROTC cadets are never under any obligation to join the military after high school.
Our school website has our video from Monday's (November 16) Law information session (we will share with you an Air Force video soon):
